About
The Young Israel of Pelham Parkway is a Modern Orthodox congregation, affiliated with the National Council of Young Israel. We are one of the oldest shuls in the Bronx area & can be found directly on Pelham Pkwy, a very popular attraction in the Bronx. Nestled between Pelham Bay Park and the Bronx Zoo and the Botanical Gardens, the area is affordable yet elegant for its well known medical area. Our expirience helps us understand what a Jewish Community needs to operate and execute on. YIPP is warm, caring and dedicated to the Jewish life of our community. The membership is a wonderful group of caring individuals who all show their support to our shul. All are welcome to pray, study and celebrate with us we welcome you to come by on Yom Tovim and Shabbos to get the real feel of a Bronx Shabbos. Our members are actively involved in all aspects of the Shul, from organizing events and shaping policies to planning the growth of our community. You can help provide the very tangible support needed to carry out the Shul's mission.
Mission
YIPP is dedicated to creating a friendly enviornment for all our congregants. We promote Torah study for men & women, for young & old, as well as many Learning Opportunities and have a spacious Beis Medresh open to the public to come study in. YIPP also holds many Torah Education & Adult Education classes, meeting many times during the week in and out of the shul. YIPP strives to provide our members of all generations, and the broader Jewish community, a spectrum of spiritual, educational, social, chesed and cultural opportunities. There are plenty of social activities for the congregation to enjoy the atmosphere of their colleagues, friends & family and We encourage members to devote time, energy and financial resources to YIPP and our members.
Past Leaders
Rabbi Schulem Rubin a"h was our longest tenured Rabbi of The Young Israel of Pelham Parkway. As a confidante of many in high office, Rabbi Rubin facilitated access to decision-makers at critical times for more than 40 years. And as the longtime Chief Director of Kosher Law Enforcement of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, Rabbi Rubin worked ceaselessly to ensure that hundreds of thousands of Jews would not unwittingly run afoul of the Halacha in a fundamental and defining aspect of our faith. Rabbi Schulem Rubin also served as Chairman of the Council of Young Israel Rabbis for many years.
.
Rabbi Shmuel Zuckerman (left) succeeded Rabbi Nachbar in September 2011 and now serves the Young Israel of Pelham Parkway as it's full time Rabbi, with our rabbinic staff. Rabbi Zuckerman assisted in the merger of the Young Israel and the Jewish Center, that now serves as Pelham Parkways largest Shul.
